What is Kinderhaus Haidhausen
Kinderhaus Haidhausen is a "day nursery" for children from one year old until the end of elementary school. Unlike most day nurseries it is not owned by the city but founded and run by parents` initiative. In Kinderhaus Haidhausen families have to take a more active part than in municipally-maintained day nurseries - they are rewarded with smaller groups and much greater influence on their children's care. Teachers and other employees are skilled staff and a manager is in charge of the daily routine, but decisions are influenced by a parents' Board of Management.
In order to guarantee close cooperation between Kinderhaus teachers and families there are frequent parents' evenings. Unlike in most similar institutions parents don't have to cook, wash or tidy up, but all families have to participate in certain activities. There is a number of committees (covering matters of daily routine and education, finance and special problems) and practical work has to be done: maintenance and redecoration of the rooms, organization of parties or weekend trips and public relations work. According to their own wishes parents may also offer activities for children; for example there have been guided tours of museums, a visit to an artist's study, and handicraft projects.
Kinderhaus Haidhausen offers a crèche for the youngest children from one year old onwards, three "age-integrated" children's groups for 3 to 8 year olds (end of second year of elementary school) and a separate afternoon-club for schoolchildren from 8 to 12 years. Groups are open most of the time, so friends can meet and play together. Generally children are free to participate in activities teachers are offering or to play according to their own ideas in the rooms or outside in the garden.
In addition to the group rooms we have "Malraum" for designing and painting, "Lesezimmer" for reading and silent activities, "Werkraum" for handicraft projects, "Toberaum", which is a large room for doing gymnastics and romping around on rainy days, "Rollenspielraum" for role-playing and dressing-up and a room for schoolchildren to retire to and for homework.
Opening Times
Monday to Friday 7.00 a.m. - 5.30 p.m. Depending on the requirements of parents and prior arrangement child care is provided for periods from 6 hours up to full day care.
Kinderhaus Haidhausen is open during most of Bavarian school holidays (Easter holidays, Whitsun holidays, autumn holidays). We are closed for three weeks during summer holidays, the first week of Christmas holidays and on public holidays.
Expenses
Monthly fees are charged in accordance with Munich's municipal statutes depending on time spent there and the parents' income. Details and tables on Munich's Internet presence: www.muenchen.de.
Enrolment
Every Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. you can register on our waiting list. During this time you have the opportunity to acquaint yourself with Kinderhaus Haidhausen and take a look at everything.
Interested families can not be taken into consideration simply in chronological order of entry because we have to maintain our structure of ages and genders. As soon as a place becomes vacant we pick out the "appropriate" children on the waiting list.
